Ile Rousse en Corse

There’s no need to go anywhere else in world. In France, you can experience the atmosphere of a polar ice pack in its Alpine mountains or an arid desert in its deep south. With no great distances to cross or time differences to manage, but with plenty of 4G and 5G coverage, here is our selection of French destinations that will take you to the other side of the planet.

Jeune Fille à Chamonix avec son téléphone

In the center of Chamonix, board the Montenvers train, close your eyes, and twenty minutes later and 1,000 metres higher up, you’ll be able to feast them on the spectacular view. Iceberg ahead! And below, you’ll see the Mer de Glace, France’s largest glacier, which wouldn’t be out of place in Antarctica. Over a length of 7 kilometres, this exceptional site welcomes nearly a million visitors a year. But the expedition to the far north does not end there. A cable car can then take you to the Ice Grotto where you can actually go inside the glacier itself to experience all kinds of icy visual and sound effects. An unforgettable experience.

Ile Rousse en Corse

Prepare to be enchanted as soon as you step off the ferry in Corsica. In the north-west of the island, Ile-Rousse (literally ‘Red Island’) owes its name to its archipelago of eight islets tinged with red/ochre rock. On the seafront, the Marinella promenade runs along Napoleon beach, with its clear waters and pristine white sand. It will lead you to meet the Mermaid of Ile-Rousse. This bronze statue sits on a chunk of granite surrounded by water a few metres from the shore. The walk then continues towards the port and across the breakwater to Pietra island, the largest in the archipelago, where the Ile-Rousse lighthouse and the Genoese tower stand. A sublime setting and a must-see at sunset.

Mont-Saint-Michel

Normandy region – Manche department (50)

Mont-Saint-Michel

In the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, the largest tidal ranges in the world are a breathtaking spectacle. Twice a day, the sea goes out for 15 kilometres and then comes back in – as fast as a galloping horse according to legend. During the full moons, the tide rises so high that Mont-Saint-Michel becomes an island again for a few hours. The water covers its causeway, cutting it off from the rest of the world. You have two options. Either observe the high tides from the Mont-Saint-Michel or try to cross the bay barefoot, accompanied by a guide, between currents and shifting sands.

La Dune du Pilat à côté de La Teste-de-Buch

Opposite Cap Ferret, stands one of France’s natural treasures, a magical place, the largest dune in Europe and one of the most famous in the world. Three kilometres long, 600 metres wide and 110 metres high, the Dune of Pilat is truly impressive. When you get to the top, you’ll be treated to a 360-degree view of the Atlantic ocean and pine forest. Whether on a walk with the family or on a romantic sunset stroll, tread along the ridge like a Tuareg and enjoy the exceptional landscape.
